July 5th, 2020, Adriana began her journey to North Carolina. Due to the current Corona Virus pandemic, she had been advised to avoid air travel. Her only option was driving to North Carolina, which meant she had to cross five state-lines and drive for 12 hours. Considering that Adriana has Scleroderma, this was not a physically easy task. The prolonged sitting, the prolonged placement of her hands on the steering wheel, and the constant movement of her ankle/ foot over the gas & break petals all increase the already existing stiffness and body aches.

Adriana was accompanied by her mother Dolores, as they embarked on their road trip to Duke Hospital. Adriana left her home in Illinois at 5 am. At this time she said her temporary goodbyes to her 2 children, Jules and David. Adriana will be apart from her children and family during her 3 month stay in North Carolina. Dolores will only remain with Adriana for 2 weeks because visitors are not allowed during the hospital treatments.

Adriana arrived safely in North Carolina at 7pm!
