Help Support

Adriana has been approved as a candidate for the HSCT treatment at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina! Due to the extensive treatment, Adriana will have to temporarily re-locate to North Carolina for the duration of care and recovery. She is expected to live in North Carolina for at least 10 weeks. During this time, Adriana will not be working, nor will her children be living with her. Her insurance company is offering coverage for the hospital treatments, however will not help with the off-site lodging expenses.

Funds graciously donated to Adriana will be used for the following expenses:

  • Flight (roundtrip) from Chicago to North Carolina

  • Transportation and Travel within North Carolina- Adriana will be an out-patient and has to drive to the hospital daily.

  • Housing and living accommodations- estimated to be $3,000

  • Medications- Insurance has not approved coverage for all of Adriana's necessary medications.

  • Food- Adriana must follow a strict diet during treatment and recovery. She is responsible for purchasing and preparing her own meals.

  • Insurance Deductible: Adriana will pay $1,000 out of pocket before insurance applies coverage.

  • Clothing- All clothing that Adriana wears post-treatment must be brand new (sterile), per hospital guidelines. This is to limit any external stress to her skin (the largest body organ), which will stress her weakened immune system.

  • Hair Piece/Wig- Adriana has already lost a significant amount of hair due to the chemotherapy medications. Once she starts the HSCT treatment, it is expected that she will loose the remainder of her hair.

  • Caregiver- Adriana will be an out-patient during these treatments, meaning she is not admitted to the hospital under the care of nurses. Adriana's mother, Dolores, will accompany her to North Carolina for the entirety of the treatment & recovery. Adriana will need assistance with showering, dressing, grocery shopping, meal preparations, transportation to treatments, etc, all of which Dolores will be helping with. Dolores will be taking an unpaid leave-of-absence from her employment in order to care-give for Adriana. Donations will also assist with Dolores' accommodations while in North Carolina.
